Surface Coal Mine Safety Skill Set (Standard 11 Induction)
The Surface Coal Mine Safety Skill Set consists of six (6) units of competency (sometimes referred to as the ‘Standard 11’ Induction) is a necessity for any individual working in the Queensland coal mining industry. This induction course has been developed in accordance with the Recognised Standard 11 for training in coal mines.
The purpose of this course is to introduce participants to the following components of the mining industry:
General overview of the mining process
Qld mining legislation
The environment and cultural heritage
The work process applicable to mining operations
General safety requirements for site
Identifying workplace hazards
Risk management
Isolation and tagging procedures
Traffic and mobile equipment procedures
Emergency procedures
Initial response first aid
Firefighting and evacuation
The induction provides training and assessment for the Resources and Infrastructure Industry (RII) Units of Competency which are specified in Recognised Standard 11, Training in Coal Mines (Qld Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999).
Recommended Recertification Period:
The Qld Coal Mining Act requires all coal mine workers to complete a refresher of every skill that they have a unit of competency for at least once every 5 years. The coal mine worker will have to complete this refresher to obtain or maintain access to a mine site.

Attendance at the course requires the following:
Casual clothing (no singlets) including enclosed footwear
Drivers licence or other form of photo ID
Unique Student Identifier (USI): All Students completing a Nationally Recognised Course with receipt of a Statement of Attainment requires a USI which can be accessed from the USI website https://www.usi.gov.au/

Course delivery:
This course is delivered face to face with individual assessment and group activities in a simulated workplace environment, at our Redland Bay facility or at an agreed safe location at your workplace.
Completion requirements:
This course requires you to successfully demonstrate skills and knowledge in both practical and written theory assessments to achieve your statement of attainment.
